The Monte Carlo of California: Talk and Reading by the authors of Bitter Melon: Inside America's Last Rural Chinese Town
The Chinese Historical Society of America will host a book talk and readings by Jeff Gillenkirk and James Motlow drawn from the new (6th) edition of Bitter Melon. This event will be held on Tuesday, October 27 at 7 p.m. at 965 Clay Street, San Francisco (between Stockton and Powell) at CHSA's stylish Chinatown venue. Jeff Gillenkirk and James Motlow's "Bitter Melon" won the Commonwealth Club's Silver Medal award for best California history. Gillenkirk's first novel "Home, Away" was chosen as one of the top five baseball novels of all time by Baseball America and his novel "Pursuit of Darkness" was chosen by NPR's Margot Adler as "the best of the lot" in the genre of political vampire thrillers.
